Rod moved to Whistler from Montreal in 1977 after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University. After a few seasons of skiing in the winter and working as a construction foreman for BC Rail in the summer he started a construction company. Rod’s first company grew and expanded with Whistler. He was responsible for building a large number of fine custom homes throughout Whistler as well as some of Whistler’s early commercial buildings.
Rod continued his education by attending seminars and courses in building science, energy efficient design, mountain design, snow management and engineering. This education expanded his ability to design and build superior quality products. Using what he learned in his continuing education, Rod began applying his personal philosophy of environmental stewardship to his building projects. He built an R-2000 compliant home 20 years before the building industry in north American started taking “Green building” seriously. This sustainable building philosophy and pioneering spirit led Rod to undertake a number of innovative environmentally conscious projects that produced a final product that was the first of its kind in the Whistler area and beyond.
Because of his extensive knowledge and experience, Rod became a member of the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Advisory Design Panel. Rod is the Founding President of the Whistler Chapter of the Canadian Homebuilders Association; which has since its inception aided industry professionals and homeowners alike in creating superior quality homes.
After more than 30 years of living in Whistler, Rod has developed significant ties to the community. Now with the start of the Rainbow development project he has an opportunity to give something back. This project combines all of the long years of Rod’s building experience with the opportunity to provide a lasting legacy based on a community expansion project that will feature all the environmentally conscious building techniques and practices that made Rod’s previous projects such a success.
